Patrick Mahomes Preparing For 'Really Good' Texans Team cover image

Mahomes acknowledges the Texans' formidable defense and offensive momentum, stressing the critical need for the Chiefs to perform at their peak to secure a vital victory.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs enter Week 14 with a huge game against the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football.

The Chiefs dropped to 6-6 after a Thanksgiving Day loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and they face an uphill climb in hopes of snagging an AFC West spot.

The Texans are coming off big wins, beating the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts in back-to-back weeks to sneak back into the AFC South race.

And, Mahomes knows just how talented this Houston team is.

“This is a really good football team that’s playing really good football right now and has a really good defense,” Mahomes said, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

“We’re going to have to throw it all out there and find a way to win. This will be a big game for us to showcase who we are and who we think we can be moving on the rest of the season.”

The Chiefs OL is banged up, and Josh Simmons landed on IR in another tough blow for Kansas City.

Yet, Mahomes feels good about the way the team is set up, even against a talented defense.

“We’ll try to do the best we can, as getting the ball out of my hand, running the football, and then whenever there’s shots down the field, you have to be able to hit them. Standing in the pocket and making those throws against a really good defense," Mahomes added.

“Obviously, we’ll go through the week and see where we’re at the with guys that are a little banged up, but you have got to give respect to where it’s deserved, and those guys have a great defensive line," he continued.

If the Chiefs win and the Pittsburgh Steelers lose, Kansas City will move into a tie with the Texans in the AFC standings, but they would still be right outside the playoff picture entering the stretch run.

The Chiefs also face the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos in two of the last four games, so they need to find a way to string some wins together against some really good teams.
