The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to hit the field, but they'll be doing it without their best receiver.

The Kansas City Chiefs got more bad news about the off-field issues of receiver Rasheed Rice, with reports surfacing out of Dallas that Rice has violated the terms of his parole by testing positive for THC, and he’ll now be ordered to serve 30 days in jail and be released on June 16.

The news was reported by Charlie NIchelson and Shannon Miller of 5 NBC DFW, with Rice’s probation related to the multi-car crash Rice caused back in 2024 during a street-racing incident. Rice has already been suspended for six games last season due to the incident, and now he’ll miss both OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

The reporters reached out to Rice’s attorneys as listed in related court documents to get a comment or an update, but they’ve received no response. Rice was booked at the Dallas County jail around noon, according to the Dallas police department.

The earlier suspension came from the NFL when the league concluded that Rice had violated its personal conduct policy when he caused a multi-car crash on a Dallas highway back in 2024 while driving erratically at speeds close to 120 mph, according to the reporters.

Rice initially left the scene of the accident before police arrived, the report added, but he took responsibility for the wreck in a statement made a couple of weeks later.

Rice turned himself in when an arrest warrant was issued, and he subsequently pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges last July for his role in the collision. Rice was sentenced to 30 days n jail and five years probation, and he was also required to pay the victims’ medical expenses, although there was reportedly an incident last summer when he was late in doing so and nearly faced legal consequences.

The football consequences are likely to be severe as well this time around. The Chiefs have been hoping Rice could stay out of trouble off the field after being cleared of charges related to a domestic abuse incident early in the offseason, although Rice still faces a lawsuit related to that.

It’s not a lawsuit this time around, though, and Rice will miss both OTAs and mandatory minicamp. The civil suit trial related to the street racing incident is scheduled to begin June 9, so the timing here couldn’t be worse. The Chiefs will be looking to revamp their offense with quarterback Patrick Mahomes still rehabbing for a knee injury, but they’ll have to do it without their best receiver, as Rice caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns last season.
