The Kansas City Chiefs have had a great offseason thus far, and two former players might be making a return to the roster.
The Kansas City Chiefs officially signed tight end Travis Kelce to a new contract, but it may not be exactly what it seems.
Kelce signed a three-year deal with a max value of $57.7 million; however, many believe that he will not be playing in the NFL for another three seasons. Golden J, for one, noted that he highly doubts Kelce will play for even the second season of this contract.
The ongoing storyline of the offseason was that the tight end would be back for the 2026-2027 season for one last ride, following the disappointing 2025-2026 season that Kansas City had.
Chico breaks down the contract situation and why Kelce signed a three-year deal, in what is dubbed a "poison pill" contract. Essentially, the 36-year-old is guaranteed to come back next season, but there's an opportunity to come back for the following two seasons -- which is unlikely. Golden J explains that it's a cap-friendly deal that will allow the Chiefs to restructure and has financial benefits. Golden J gives an in-depth analysis as to why this was a great deal for Kansas City, which is a segment everyone should listen to for a great explanation as to why the contract value is so high.
While this time of year in the NFL calendar isn't necessarily filled with rumors, Golden J brings up something that he's seen floating around online. Ex-Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson signed with the Los Angeles Rams, and LA is allegedly planning on using him as a backup, despite inking a three-year, $51 million deal.
This is causing speculation that Watson has reached out to Kansas City to ignite a homecoming, as he wouldn't want to play second fiddle with the Rams. To be abundantly clear, there's zero confirmation from official sources that this is Watson's situation in LA, but it could be a theory that fans follow for the foreseeable future.
Staying on the topic of rumors, another former Chief has been loosely linked to a reunion in Kansas City. Offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor was cut by the Chiefs this offseason and has yet to find a new home, which has now led to speculation that the franchise may look to bring him back -- which is very upsetting news for Chico.
