The Kansas City Chiefs have two first-round selections in this years NFL Draft, and there is speculation that the organization will choose a defensive player who made headlines earlier this week.
With the 2026 NFL Draft rapidly approaching, the Kansas City Chiefs have one name rumored to be chosen at the No. 9 pick, according to Chico and Golden J.
Early in the offseason, Notre Dame's running back Jeremiyah Love was long expected to be the Chiefs' top-10 selection; however, after an excellent Pro Day, his stock shot through the roof. Love is now expected to be a top-5 pick, landing with either the New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans or New York Giants -- with the Las Vegas Raiders not expected to draft him with the first-overall pick (Indiana's quarterback Fernando Mendoza is widely expected to be No. 1 overall).
Love's rise to the top, paired with the Chiefs' landing Seattle Seahawks' Kenneth Walker, essentially removed the running back from any conversations of Kansas City selecting him at No. 9. Now, our duo predicts the Chiefs to choose Miami's edge Reuben Bain Jr -- who earlier this week was in headlines for a motor vehicle accident that occurred in 2024.
Another storyline of the offseason was whether tight end Travis Kelce would retire after last season and he ultimately decided to return to the field, signing a three-year deal. While the contract might sound exciting at first, there's still no guarantee that the 36-year-old will play all three of the seasons that he's signed on for, so Golden J and Chico discuss whether they think the future Hall of Famer will hang them up after the 2026-2027 season and what they think would need to happen for Kelce to play until 2029.
Golden J continues his plea for Kansas City to bring back JuJu Smith-Schuster, whom he's been asking for all offseason -- who would provide QB Patrick Mahomes with an offensive weapon.
While there's a lot of talk about the Chiefs' two first-round picks, Golden J and Chico remind fans that the team also has a second-round selection, No. 40 overall. The duo takes a trip down memory lane and reviews some past second-round picks and whether they panned out or not, giving hope that Kansas City can walk away from this draft with three elite players to bolster the roster for another Super Bowl berth.
What the Chiefs do in the draft is still yet to be seen, but there's a lot of hope that the team can completely turn things around and get back to the level of success that the organization has seen over the past decade.
