The Kansas City Chiefs lost their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, to an ACL injury. Now, the question remains of when he will return to football.
The Kansas City Chiefs, along with the rest of the NFL, are patiently waiting for the 2026 schedule release.
Thursday, May 14, is the official date marked on the calendar for the release, but Chiefs fans have already received a glimpse into what the upcoming season has to offer.
Tuesday, the Chiefs announced that Week 1's bout will be against the Denver Broncos on Monday night football at 7:15 pm CT, and the team later confirmed that it will be a home game. Subsequently, tickets will officially go on sale this Friday.
Our hosts, Golden J and Chico, are fired up for the game, as well as the schedule release this week, but there's still concern about the status of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and whether he'll be given a green light to kick off Kansas City's season.
The Chiefs do have QB Justin Fields as a backup plan, but only time will tell who gets the nod as QB1 for the season opener.
Looking at some rumors, the duo discusses the possibility of ex-Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs might be teaming up with Mahomes and company, which would be an immediate upgrade at the position. Although it's just a rumor, Diggs currently has no team to call home and might be looking to compete with Kansas City.
Following a deep dive into the offensive line, the pair looks into Oklahoma's defensive end R Mason Thomas, the Chiefs' second-round draft pick at No. 40 overall.
There's a lot to love about the rookie, who has a quick first step that fans are hoping will translate to the NFL. Golden J notes that while watching footage, he noticed Thomas would typically excel at pressuring the opposing QB.
Both Golden J and Chico are predicting that the 21-year-old will be a day-one starter, so there are clearly high hopes for the rookie.
Next on the podcast, the Chiefs' round four selection at No. 109 overall is safety Jadon Canady. The duo is again pretty excited to see him in Kansas City and has high hopes. The 23-year-old, in Golden J's words, can stick to his targets like glue and isn't afraid to tackle when needed.
Listen to the full podcast for the in-depth review of each player and what Golden J and Chico are expecting out of the rookies, and join Roundtable's Chiefs site to not miss a beat with the team as the offseason goes on.
