The Kansas City Chiefs have been connected to a reunion with Tyreek Hill, but it's actually incredibly unlikely.
The rumor mill started buzzing right after the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing season ended, and one of the more intriguing possibilities had the Chiefs reconnecting with receiver Tyreek Hill. The possibility wasn’t off-the-charts impossible, but Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has been talking up some other reasons why this won’t happen beyond the fact that Hill is still recovering from a serious knee injury.
Hill still has legal issues, and back in February Florio reported that the league’s Personal Conduct Policy investigation was still open. Florio’s latest report has Hill’s estranged wife, Keeta, attempting to secure evidence of past incidents of alleged domestic violence involving Hill.
She’s targeted several things, Florio noted, including a 2019 incidentt that prompted a league investigation that prompted Hill to voluntarily stay away from the Chiefs’ offseason program.
Early that year, Hill’s three-year old son suffered a broken arm. The case was quickly closed, then reopened, according to Florio. In June of that year, Hill met with NFL investigators for a total of eight hours.
Hill wasn’t charged in that case, and the NFL didn’t suspend him. Keeta Hill now wants evidence from both the authorities and the NFL about that 2019 case, Florio added. She’s made multiple allegations of domestic abuse against Hill in their divorce action, and the NFL has an open investigation against the Chiefs receiver regarding those claims.
On the field, that means Hill could be suspended this year, regardless of whether he signs with the Chiefs or another team. Most NFL teams want to steer a wide berth around incidents like this, but the Chiefs tolerated Hill’s various off-the-field incidents for several seasons before they made the big trade that sent him to Miami.
The Chiefs already have a crowded receiving room, and they’ve got other legal issues within that group. Receiver Rashee Rice has also faced domestic violence allegations, and he’s still facing a civil suit related to those claims, although the NFL has indicated it won’t go any further with a possible investigation for his incidents.
But Rice also faces an upcoming trail related to the street racing incident that cost him a six game suspension, and that trial starts on June 9. Based on their past history, the Chiefs will do all they can to keep Rice out of the limelight and away from the media, but the questions will be asked, and adding Hill back into this group is probably the last thing Kansas City wants.
