Mahomes improved to 10-2 in overtime games during his career after Kansas City outlasted the Indianapolis Colts 33-30 on Sunday night.
That gives Mahomes the best overtime record in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 10 overtime starts, according to the Chiefs.
His record is even better when the postseason is removed from the equation.
Mahomes is a perfect 8-0 in regular-season overtime games, the most wins without a loss by a quarterback in NFL history.
The latest victory required Mahomes and the Chiefs to deliver in several critical situations.
Kansas City received the ball first in overtime and faced third-and-12 from its own 30-yard line. Mahomes responded by connecting with Tyquan Thornton for 30 yards, keeping the drive alive and helping set up a Harrison Butker field goal.
Indianapolis answered with a field goal of its own, giving Mahomes and the Chiefs another opportunity to win the game.
Kansas City capitalized. Facing third-and-1 from the Indianapolis 46, Mahomes completed a short pass to Kenneth Walker III that the running back turned into a 22-yard gain, moving the Chiefs deep into Indianapolis territory. Butker kicked a 40-yard field goal on the final play to secure the victory.
The overtime performance capped another big game for Mahomes, who completed 32 of 47 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns.
It marked his 19th career game with at least 350 passing yards and three touchdown passes, seven more than any other quarterback since 2018.
Mahomes also received plenty of help against Indianapolis.
Walker finished with 178 yards from scrimmage, while Travis Kelce caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Thornton finished with four catches for 86 yards, including his critical 30-yard reception in overtime.
The victory moved Kansas City to 2-0 after the Chiefs opened the season with a 31-10 victory over the Denver Broncos.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will now take their unbeaten record on the road when they visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
