An unfortunate situation occurred during the Cleveland Browns’ 23-16 loss to Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
According to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN, as Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders made his NFL debut at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, his home in Medina County was ransacked, with approximately $200k in property stolen from the rookie’s home.
According to a news release from Medina County Sheriff's Office, three suspects broke into Sanders’ home during Sunday’s game at approximately 6:46 p.m. ET, with Sanders’ surveillance cameras capturing footage of them utilizing multiple entry and exit points around the home, finally exiting for good at around 6:58 p.m. ET. According to police, the suspects wore masks and gloves and were seen on video leaving with property of Sanders.

Approximately $200,000 in property was stolen from Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders’ home during a break-in on Sunday during Cleveland’s game against the Ravens, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident is under investigation. Video footage captured three
Now, that’s stolen property worth about half of Sanders’ guaranteed $447k signing bonus with Cleveland this year, as he was drafted No. 144 overall in the 2025 NFL draft. However, Sanders was one of the top NIL earners while he was in college with the Colorado Buffaloes.
It’s still an unfortunate situation, and the latest instance of burglaries to high-profile athletes. New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Cameron Jordan’s home was burglarized during a game last month. Other instances include Los Angeles Lakers' Luka Doncic, then with the Dallas Mavericks, Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow, and Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
It's not clear at this time what the property was, but the incident is currently under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Sanders entered the game Sunday when starter Dillon Gabriel went into concussion protocol during the second half.
He completed 4-of-16 passes for 47 yards and threw one interception with no touchdowns and was sacked twice. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders is in line to start against the Las Vegas Raiders should Gabriel not clear protocol.
Unfortunately, as he was taking his first snaps, the suspects were aware of that. Plainly, athletes’ game times are scheduled well in advance, with the events on live television, and it’s very clear when they won’t be home. There’s no real fix for that outside of enhanced security measures to address vulnerabilities. In the case of Burrow’s break-in, his assistant, who called 911, was in the home at the time, adding a level of danger to these issues.
No reporting on Sanders’ incident indicates anyone was home at the time. Regardless, it’s a tough way to follow up a loss to come home to half of your signing bonus being stolen in property.
