The Indianapolis Colts finished off their preseason at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday with a 25-16 loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Colts' starters saw action for a drive each on offense and defense while the Lions held theirs back altogether.

Anthony Richardson Sr. started at quarterback for the Colts and played all of the first quarter, followed by Riley Leonard, who played the rest of the first half. Richardson led two field-goal drives, while Leonard led the Colts to their only touchdown.

Next up for the Colts and the rest of the NFL are roster cuts, trimming their lineups from 90 players all the way down to 53, by 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.

But first, here's how the game went.

The Colts received the opening kickoff and began the game with a productive drive, quarterbacked by Richardson. He found wide receiver Keenan Allen for a 24-yard gain on an in-breaking route. The next play, receiver Coleman Owen was injured after a big hit by a few Lions defenders along the sideline and was taken to the blue tent to be further evaluated. The Colts would complete the drive with a 46-yard field goal by Blake Grupe with 11:57 remaining in the first quarter to go up 3-0.

Detroit's first drive was an abridged one, as Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner intercepted quarterback Luke Altmyer on the fourth play of the drive, Gardner returning it eight yards to the Detroit 41-yard line.

Beginning the drive with good field position, the Colts overcame a 10-yard offensive pass interference penalty (pick play by tight end Pharaoh Brown) and notched plays of eight yards (Richardson to receiver Anthony Gould), nine yards (Richardson to Gould), and 10 yards (running back Seth McGowan run). They got another Grupe field goal from 36 yards to extend the lead to 6-0 with 6:33 left in the first quarter.

The Lions responded with their first points of the day, going 75 yards in 10 plays. They got a 22-yard run by running back Jacob Saylors (plus a five-yard illegal hands-to-face penalty on Colts edge George Gumbs Jr.), a 15-yard pass from Altmyer to receiver Greg Dortch, and a 19-yard completion from Altmyer to Lucky Jackson. Running back Trayveon Williams ran it in from a yard out. The extra point attempt by kicker Jake Bates was no good, tying the game at 6-6 with 1:44 left in the first quarter.

After a beautiful connection from Richardson to receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for 17 yards on the left sideline, the Colts' drive stalled out after four total plays, resulting in a punt.

The Lions were methodical on the ensuing drive, going 87 yards in 16 plays, concluding in a six-yard pass from Lions quarterback Joshua Dobbs to receiver Jackson Meeks. The extra point made it 13-6 with 6:49 remaining in the first half.

The Colts responded with their first touchdown of the day on the next drive. Led by Riley Leonard at quarterback, Indy got a 25-yard completion to Gould on 4th-and-6, followed by a 14-yard completion to receiver Deion Burks. Running back DJ Giddens then scampered in from six yards out for the score. Grupe's extra point tied the game at 13 with 2:53 left in the first half.

The next several plays were a blur, as Colts rookie linebacker Bryce Boettcher forced a fumble on the Lions' kickoff, which was recovered by rookie defensive lineman Caden Curry. However, three plays later, Leonard threw an interception while being hit after Giddens whiffed on the blitz pickup.

The Lions took advantage of their bonus possession, going 76 yards in eight plays, getting a two-yard touchdown throw from Dobbs to receiver Tay Martin. However, their two-point attempt went incomplete, making it 19-13 with 0:08 left in the second quarter. The score was setup by a 35-yard pass from Dobbs to Jackson on a go route down the right side.

The Colts got the fireworks started in the second half as Gumbs got to Altmyer for a sack-fumble, which Gumbs also recovered, just three plays into the third quarter.

The Colts' offense then went four-and-out, as a pass from quarterback Easton Stick to receiver Eli Pancol on 4th-and-4 fell incomplete.

The Colts defense forced a punt on the following drive, set up by a sack on a nickel blitz by cornerback Rob Carter Jr.

Indy's ensuing drive nearly flamed out following a 22-yard completion from Stick to Pancol over the middle. Stick was nearly sacked afterward but threw an incompletion, and then was sacked on the next play, setting up 3rd-and-16. The Colts then got a 60-yard field goal from Spencer Shrader, which was his second make from 60-plus yards this preseason. That cut the Lions' lead to 19-16 with 44:47 left in the third quarter.

Play was a bit sloppy afterward, as Detroit fumbles on a run on the next drive, which was forced by Colts safety Trey Washington and recovered by edge Mitchell Melton.

The Colts then went three-and-out.

Detroit strung together yet another huge drive, going 62 yards in 14 plays, ending in another short touchdown by Williams. Bates missed another extra point, which extended the lead to 25-16 with 7:25 remaining in the game.

The Colts' next drive stalled out after six plays, turning the ball over on downs.

The Lions bled out the clock on the final drive, ultimately ending the game.
