INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The 2025 season wasn't the one that the Indianapolis Colts envisioned, at least not for half of it.
After an 8-2 start that had them at or near the top of most NFL power rankings, the team's injuries proved too much to overcome, and they went on a seven-game skid to end the season, falling to 8-9 and missing the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.
Injuries weren't the only issue that led to their downfall, however. Once again, general manager Chris Ballard must reflect on how best to get this roster where it needs to be.
The Colts have now begun the early phase of building their offseason roster, announcing the signing of 17 players to reserve/futures contracts.
Washington was active for four games, making four tackles. He played 36 snaps on defense and 26 on special teams.
Nchami was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster in three games, accumulating a pair of tackles. He played 33 defensive snaps and 16 on special teams.
Owen was active for a pair of games in 2025, mainly as a return specialist. He returned five kickoffs for a 28.2-yard average and one punt for two yards.
Sills was active for three games, playing four snaps on offense and 12 on special teams.
Bentley saw action for the Colts in one game, carrying the ball once for no gain in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
The Colts also announced that they signed linebacker Austin Ajiake to a one-year contract extension, and claimed linebacker John Bullock off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During the season, teams must limit their active rosters to just 53 players, but when the new league year begins each March, roster can expand again to 90 players. That's where the reserve/future players come into play, expanding the roster. Teams cannot sign futures deals until their season has ended, however.
