WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts hit the field at Grand Park Sports Campus for their sixth practice of training camp, and the second consecutive day with pads on.

It was comfortably the most physical, intense practice in camp to date. Here's how Tuesday's practice went.

TEAM

— Players who missed Tuesday's practice were: cornerback Sauce Gardner (illness), safety Hunter Wohler (hamstring), running back DJ Giddens (hamstring), linebacker Jaylon Carlies (personal), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (toe), defensive tackle Tim Smith, and wide receiver Eli Pancol.

— Wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and tight end Sean McKeon both left practice early and did not return. Treadwell had an ice wrap on one of his thighs, and McKeon appeared to suffer a right shoulder injury after a collision with safety Austin Brown.

— There were passing game one-on-ones, with the following results. Offensive wins are completions or defensive penalties, and defensive wins are incompletions or offensive penalties: Mekhi Blackmon def. Laquon Treadwell, Johnathan Edwards def. Ashton Dulin, Josh Downs def. Justin Walley, Sahmir Hagans def. Jaylon Jones, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine def. Cam Taylor-Britt, Rob Carter Jr. def. Anthony Gould, E.J. Horton Jr. def. Mekhi Rodgers, Jai'Onte' McMillan def. Deion Burks, Coleman Owen def. Rob Carter Jr., Jaylon Jones def. Liam Clifford, Ben Nikkel def. Johnathan Edwards, Raylen Sharpe def. Rob Carter Jr., Laquon Treadwell def. Mekhi Blackmon, Ashton Dulin def. Johnathan Edwards, Josh Downs def. Justin Walley, Mekhi Rodgers def. Sahmir Hagans, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine def. Jai'Onte' McMillan, Raylen Sharpe def. Cam Taylor-Britt, Jaylon Jones def. E.J. Horton Jr., Deion Burks def. Johnathan Edwards.

— The offense and defense had a low-red-zone competition period near the beginning of practice. The first-team offense scored four times, with two rushing touchdowns by running back Jonathan Taylor and another from running back Seth McGowan. Quarterback Daniel Jones also found receiver Josh Downs on the right side of the end zone for a score. The two defensive wins were a run stuff of McGowan and an incomplete pass out of the back of the end zone.

OFFENSE

— The primary first-team offense was: QB Daniel Jones, RB Jonathan Taylor, WR Ashton Dulin, WR Josh Downs, WR Laquon Treadwell, TE Tyler Warren, TE Mo Alie-Cox, LT Bernhard Raimann, LG Quenton Nelson, C Tanor Bortolini, RG Matt Goncalves, and RT Jalen Travis

— Jones went 9-of-11 passing (81.8%), with completions to Dulin (2), Downs, Treadwell, Taylor, Tyler Warren, Mo Alie-Cox, and Will Mallory. One of Jones' two incompletions was a drop by Downs. Jones' performance was relatively average up until the final period of the day, which focused on third downs. He went 5-of-5 during that series with sizeable downfield shots along the right side to tight ends Warren and Mallory. Both catches were highly difficult, as each player had a safety draped over them in position. Early in practice, Jones had a deep ball to Treadwell on a blown coverage that went for about 50 yards. He had another throw late during the third-down series where he found Dulin from about 50 yards out.

— Jones had a couple of big throws that likely would've resulted in sacks first; one on a blitz from linebacker Bryce Boettcher and another by cornerback Justin Walley.

— Quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. got three series with the second-team offense versus one for Riley Leonard. Richardson was 3-of-5 passing (60.0%), with completions to wide receiver Deion Burks (2) and a short touchdown to wide receiver Horton. One of Richardson's completions to Burks was a deep dig for about 20 yards. Richardson continued to have issues handling shotgun snaps, dropping another one on Tuesday, with the whistle then blowing the play dead.

— Leonard was 3-of-3 passing (100.0%), with completions to McGowan, Burks, and Sharpe.

— Taylor is comfortably one of the best runners in the NFL in the open field, and he had an eye-opening move on Tuesday when he spun away from rookie linebacker CJ Allen.

— McGowan continues to impress. On one play, he found an opening outside on the left and ran untouched for 10-plus yards.

— It was another big day for Warren, who had the big catch late from Jones. He also caught a deep dig from Jones during 7-on-7s.

— Rookie receiver Burks had some teachable moments on Tuesday. He was loudly reminded to go in motion on one play, shortly before false-starting later. He also muffed a couple of return attempts on Monday. However, he is starting to make more plays on offense in recent days.

DEFENSE

— The primary first-team defense was: DE Laiatu Latu, DT (3T) Colby Wooden, DT (1T) Grover Stewart, DE Jaylahn Tuimoloau, LB CJ Allen/Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB Bryce Boettcher, CB Charvarius Ward Sr., CB Cam Taylor-Britt, SCB Justin Walley, FS Cam Bynum, and SS A.J. Haulcy.

— The edge rushers were on fire on Tuesday. I counted Laiatu Latu with a sack and a forced fumble on McGowan, which was recovered by the offense. Arden Key and Jaylahn Tuimoloau (while lined up inside) each had a sack, along with some other good rush reps for Tuimoloau. Young rushers George Gumbs Jr., Mitchell Melton, and Durell Nchami each had multiple sacks during the third-team and developmental periods. Gumbs in particular had his best day, making multiple plays against the run and pass.

— With the pads on, the front seven really got after it on run plays, as linebackers Boettcher and West Weeks, defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore, and Tuimoloau all had some big run stuffs around the line of scrimmage.

— Cornerbacks stepped up to make some big plays, as Charvarius Ward Sr., Taylor-Britt, and Carter all knocked balls away from Westbrook-Ikhine.

— The big hits were on display when safety Jonathan Owens upended running back Anderson Castle, which drew a big reaction from the defense.

— Rookie linebacker Tahj Chambers made a couple of big plays. First, he tackled McGowan for a loss on a screen pass before catching a tipped ball out of the air (tipped by safety Juanyeh Thomas) later for an interception, which he returned for sizable yardage.

SPECIAL TEAMS

— After Blake Grupe got all the kicks on Monday and went 6-of-6, it was Spencer Shrader's turn on Tuesday. He went 4-of-6, with makes from 21, 33, 39, and 52 yards, and misses from 45 and 57 yards. Both misses were hooked left. Since the spring, in practices the media have seen, Grupe is 17-of-17 (100.0%), and Shrader is 12-of-17 (70.6%).

— The kickoff return rotation was as follows: Anthony Gould (Coleman Owen lead blocker), Sahmir Hagans (Raylen Sharpe lead blocker), Rob Carter Jr. (Ulysses Bentley IV lead blocker), Anthony Gould (Coleman Owen lead blocker), Raylen Sharpe (Sahmir Hagans lead blocker), Coleman Owen (Anthony Gould lead blocker), Sahmir Hagans (Raylen Sharpe lead blocker), Mekhi Blackmon (Deion Burks lead blocker), Coleman Owen (Anthony Gould lead blocker), Raylen Sharpe (Sahmir Hagans lead blocker), Mekhi Blackmon (Deion Burks lead blocker)

DEVELOPMENTAL

— Quarterback Easton Stick went 2-of-5 passing (40.0%), with completions to Burks and Bentley.

— Safety Daniel Scott nearly had an interception on a high throw from Stick to Burks over the middle of the field.

— Linebacker Devin Veresuk had a hard hit on a Burks reception.

— Chambers' interception came during the developmental period.
