The Indianapolis Colts made a waiver claim on Monday, grabbing a defensive back from the Philadelphia Eagles while releasing their swing tackle.
The Indianapolis Colts claimed rookie defensive back Kapena Gushiken off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday after sweeping roster cuts were made across the NFL on Sunday as teams chopped their rosters down to 53 players from 90.
To make room on the roster, the Colts released offensive tackle Luke Tenuta, who has been with the team since signing a reserve/future deal in January 2025. The Colts now have just two offensive tackles on the roster in Bernhard Raimann and Jalen Travis.
Gushiken (5'10", 189, 24 years old) was initially signed by the Eagles out of Ole Miss as an undrafted free agent following this spring's 2026 NFL Draft.
He played 125 defensive snaps this preseason for the Eagles, lining up in the slot (57), in the box (36), and at free safety (32). He also saw 40 snaps on special teams, including 10 at gunner on the punt team. Gushiken totaled 16 tackles.
In 40 career games at Washington State and Ole Miss, he totaled 143 tackles (5.5 for loss), 1.0 sack, two fumbles recovered, four interceptions, and 16 pass breakups. He also had one interception returned for a touchdown.
Gushiken was also a versatile collegiate player, lining up in 2025 for 344 snaps in the slot, 242 at free safety, 209 at box safety, and 130 on special teams.
The Colts list Gushiken at cornerback, where he'd likely be in the mix at slot. At slot cornerback, the Colts currently have Justin Walley and Cam Taylor-Britt, the latter of whom is suspended for the first game of the season.
Tenuta was the Colts' presumed swing tackle going into 2026, outside of starting right guard Matt Goncalves, who has several starts at tackle under his belt in his young career.
Tenuta (6'8", 314, 27) was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 209th overall pick by the Buffalo Bills. He was waived during preseason roster cuts and then quickly scooped up by the Colts for his first stint with the team. Tenuta was waived by the Colts before being claimed by the Green Bay Packers, where he stayed through the 2023 season. He then found a spot with the Arizona Cardinals in 2024 before signing that futures deal with the Colts at the beginning of the 2025 calendar year.
Tenuta has been active for seven career games: three for the Packers as a rookie in 2022 and four for the Colts in 2025. He's played 26 career snaps at left tackle, eight at right tackle, and one as the extra blocker. Tenuta has also played 44 career snaps on the field goal kick and block teams.
According to Pro Football Focus, in Tenuta's 28 offensive snaps in 2025, he allowed just one pressure on the quarterback. That was in Week 15 against the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, who tied for the seventh-most sacks in the NFL with 47.
