INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts were dealt a blow on Sunday as kicker Spencer Shrader, the NFL's leading scorer, suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Colts are expected to place Shrader on Injured Reserve while announcing his reported replacement, Michael Badgley.

The signing was first reported by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, and has since been confirmed by multiple local outlets.

Badgley was among a group of kickers who worked out for the Colts on Tuesday morning, and now, the eighth-year pro makes his return to where his NFL journey began (and where he's already been twice before).

The Colts initially signed Badgley as an undrafted rookie out of the University of Miami in 2018. With Adam Vinatieri already on the roster, the Colts waived Badgley during preseason cuts, and he was later picked up by the Los Angeles Chargers, where he stayed until 2021.

Badgley has also spent time with the Tennessee Titans (2021), again with the Colts (2021), Chicago Bears (2022), Detroit Lions (2022), Washington Commanders (2023), again with the Titans (2023), and again with the Lions (2023-24).

Last offseason, Badgley tore a hamstring, ending his season before it began. He is now healthy and ready to kick.

In 64 career games, Badgley is 98-of-119 on field goal attempts (82.4%), including 5-of-13 from 50-plus yards (38.5%), a career long of 59 yards, and he is also 168-of-175 (96.0%) on extra point attempts.
