INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts' defense was going to be presented with a unique challenge this week of facing one of the slipperiest quarterbacks in the NFL in the Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray. However, it seems as if they'll have to pivot their attention to a more classic pocket passer in Jacoby Brissett, as Murray's foot injury is expected to keep him out of Sunday's matchup.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Murray has a mid-foot sprain that could keep him out more than just this week.
“We were preparing for him, and then obviously got to adjust if Jacoby is up there," Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters on Friday. "Got a lot of respect for both of those guys. So, both great players and whoever's out there, we got to be ready to go.”
The Cardinals are 2-3 on the season with Murray as their starter, although each of their games has been decided by one score.
He is 110-of-161 passing (68.3%) on the year, for 962 yards (6.0 YPA), six touchdowns and three interception, for a passer rating of 88.6. He's also been sacked 16 times. On the ground, Murray has picked up 173 yards and a touchdown on 29 runs.
Brissett, who was with the Colts from 2017-20 and started 30 games for them, has only played four snaps this season, including three last week while Murray was on the sideline being examined. Overall, Brissett has thrown one pass, which was incomplete, and ran the ball once for two yards.
