INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts are opening up their week in great physical shape ahead of an AFC South matchup this Sunday at home against the Houston Texans.
Quarterback Daniel Jones remains a limited participant with his fibula injury, but head coach Shane Steichen rebutted on Wednesday whether it would be an injury that Jones has to maintain for the foreseeable future.
“No, he should be good," Steichen said, after declaring Jones good to go this week. "Like I said, he's going to practice this week and be fine. I mean, just like he played in the game. We should be good to go.”
The Texans may also be getting their starting quarterback to return to the field on Sunday as C.J. Stroud (concussion) was a full participant at practice on Wednesday.
Here is how both teams' health is shaping up ahead of Sunday afternoon's matchup.
WEDNESDAY
The Colts held a walkthrough on Wednesday rather than a full practice, so Wednesday's injury report is an estimation.
"Today we'll conduct a walkthrough," Steichen explained about Wednesday's approach. "I just want to get these guys rested up. Obviously, late in the season, just giving guys time to heal their bodies, their nicks and bruises, so they could be fresh and ready to go for Sunday.
There were just four names on the estimated report, which is a stark contrast from the eight that donned the Wednesday report last week coming out of the bye.
Gallimore and Gardner were both new additions to the report. Their limited estimate is promising for their availability this week, but their status will remain closely monitored regardless.
Jones spoke to reporters on Wednesday about the origins of his injury and how he's playing through it.
“Yeah, it was just something that kind of was hanging over, and realized it last week," Jones said. "Just been trying to get treatment and make sure I'm in the best spot I can be.”
“I think it's just something I felt last week, and tough to say exactly when," Jones responded when asked if the injury occurred in the team's Week 10 game against the Atlanta Falcons. "But yeah, something I felt last week I looked at. It’s been really good working with the trainers here and making sure we're ready to go (and) got a good plan.”
WEDNESDAY
Stroud's full participation is the headliner for Houston. However, Autry and Pitre are notable injuries to follow as serious contributors to the NFL's No. 1 defense.
The Colts and Texans face off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium on CBS.
