INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts' pass rush has run hot and cold throughout the season, and now, it could be without one of its key rotational pieces for "multiple weeks" after Samson Ebukam suffered a knee injury in Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on Monday afternoon that Ebukam is seeking multiple opinions for an MCL injury.
"Colts pass rusher Samson Ebukam is expected to miss multiple weeks with an MCL injury, per sources," Fowler posted on X (formerly Twitter). "Ebukam, who has two sacks this season, is getting a second opinion."
Colts head coach Shane Steichen was asked during his weekly Monday media availability about Fowler's report shortly after it came out and if there's a timetable for Ebukam's injury.
"He's just dealing with the knee injury right now," Steichen answered. "So, we'll see how the week goes."
With just over nine minutes remaining in the third quarter on Sunday, Ebukam rushed Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert from the backside, and as Herbert flushed up in the pocket to escape, Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner came from the opposite end and collided with Ebukam's knee, knocking Ebukam off his feet. He was then ruled out for the remainder of the game.
In seven games this season, Ebukam has 14 tackles (three for loss), 2.0 sacks, and seven quarterback hits.
If Ebukam is to miss any time, it would likely mean an uptick in usage for rookie second-round pick JT Tuimoloau, who played 22 snaps against the Chargers.
Steichen will speak to reporters again on Wednesday when the team begins its week of practice for the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans.
