In the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, with the 156th overall pick, the Indianapolis Colts selected Florida edge defender George Gumbs Jr.

PROS

Gumbs (6'4", 245) has longer arms at almost 34 inches. He also tested as the seventh most athletic edge at the Combine.

He is explosive and tough off the edge with a non-stop motor. He's both quick and fast, with plenty of bend. Gumbs is settling into his new positional home of edge after also playing wide receiver and tight end earlier in college, so he's another traits-based projection.

CONS

Gumbs is still raw and new as an edge rusher, and his lack of production reflects that. He has 21.0 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks in three years since transferring to Florida from Northern Illinois.

FIT WITH COLTS

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said this week that the Colts needed "a fastball" off the edge, and that's exactly what Gumbs provides. While he's yet another "project" at the defensive end position, Gumbs' physical and athletic traits can be groomed in rotation with Laiatu Latu and Arden Key as weakside ends.
