The Indianapolis Colts signed a running back who excelled during his tryout at rookie minicamp.
The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday that they have signed free agent running back Anderson Castle and waived running back Jordon Vaughn.
Castle (5'11", 221, 24 years old) was a tryout player at the Colts' rookie minicamp from May 8-9.
He is an undrafted rookie out of Duke, who previously spent 2020-2025 at Appalachian State. He was a three-star, three-sport recruit coming out of high school.
Castle was a team captain at App. State who got on the field immediately as a true freshman. Through six years in college, Castle appeared in 68 games (three starts). He ran the ball 308 times for 1,524 yards (4.9 avg.) and 20 touchdowns, and had 36 receptions for 252 yards (7.0 avg.) and another touchdown.
Throughout his career, Castle graded as an above-average offensive player, according to Pro Football Focus, with a career mark of 77.1.
Castle was also a core special-teamer for much of his college career, appearing in 638 snaps.
Vaughn (6'3", 228, 22) was also signed by the Colts this offseason as an undrafted rookie.
Behind Jonathan Taylor, the Colts' backup running back spots appear to be relatively open.
They drafted DJ Giddens in the fifth round of 2025, but he was active for just nine of 17 games. The Colts then drafted Seth McGowan in the seventh round of the 2026 draft recently. The Colts also have Ulysses Bentley IV and Lincoln Pare competing for spots.
