The Indianapolis Colts are heavy underdogs to the Kansas City Chiefs as the early betting lines open ahead of Week 2.
The Indianapolis Colts (0-1) laid an egg in Week 1, to put it lightly, so it should come as no surprise that they're being doubted heading into their next matchup on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs (0-0).
The Colts lost their opener at home on Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens, 41-23, because of a completely overmatched defense, an offense that couldn't keep up, and special teams that made too many mistakes.
They must quickly learn from the beating and shift their focus to future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium.
FanDuel Sportsbook opened its Week 2 betting lines with the Colts as 6.5-point underdogs to the Chiefs, with a total point over/under of 47.5 points.
Mahomes and the Chiefs haven't yet played in Week 1, as they take on the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football to close out the week.
There was much optimism surrounding the Colts coming into Sunday's game, as they returned several players who were injured in 2025, including quarterback Daniel Jones, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, and cornerbacks Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward Sr., and Justin Walley.
However, very few players on the entire gameday roster appeared poised to take the field against the Ravens.
The Colts generated just 251 yards of offense, which is the fewest in games that Jones has started over the last two years. The defense gave up 506 yards, which is the most they've surrendered since Week 8 of 2023. Baltimore's 41 points are the most the Colts have given up in a season opener at home since 1954.
Sunday was also the first time since the Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984 that a road team has committed 10-plus penalties against them and still won by at least three scores.
Similar to the Colts, Kansas City lost their starting quarterback to a season-ending injury late in the year, but were already in the midst of a spiral.
The Colts lost Jones to a torn Achilles in Week 14, but were already three games into a seven-game losing streak.
The Chiefs lost Mahomes to a torn ACL the following week in Week 15 and were also three games into a six-game losing streak.
The Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Colts went 8-9, missing the postseason for the fifth straight year.
