INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The early-season awards continue to roll in for the Indianapolis Colts, as the NFL has named kicker Spencer Shrader the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September.
Through the first four games of the season, Shrader is 13-of-14 on field goal attempts (92.9%) and a perfect 12-of-12 on extra points (100%). In Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, Shrader hit a 45-yard field goal with no time left on the clock to win the game, 29-28, which pushed the Colts to a 2-0 record.
Shrader has the most field goals made in the NFL currently and is tied for fourth in extra points made. He also has the most points (51), which is 12 more than the next highest player, and the most for a Colts player through the first four games of a season in franchise history.
The Colts re-signed Shrader to the roster this offseason to replace veteran Matt Gay. Shrader then beat Maddux Trujillo for the kicking job in training camp.
This season has been an encouraging early portion of Shrader's career. He was a perfect 5-of-5 on field goals and 9-of-9 on extra points as a rookie in 2024 for the Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Jets.
According to Colts Communications, Shrader is the first Colts player to earn an AFC Player of the Month award since Jonathan Taylor in November 2021 and the first to win AFC Special Teams Player of the Month since Adam Vinatieri in October 2016.
Shrader joins running back Jonathan Taylor among league-wide award recipients, as Taylor was the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week for Weeks 2 and 3.
