Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has yet another head-coaching interview on deck.

Locked On Colts host Jake Arthur discusses some 2026 NFL Draft prospects to keep an eye on for the Indianapolis Colts, and what changes may occur on the Colts' offensive line this offseason.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts may not be out of the woods when it comes to maintaining stability on the defensive side of the ball.

After previously interviewing for now-filled head-coaching roles with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is now on deck to interview for the Buffalo Bills' newly-vacant head coaching spot.

"The Bills are getting right to work, bringing candidates in for in-person interviews," The Athletic's Dianna Russini posted on X. "Brian Daboll and Lou Anarumo are first up, per source."

The Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott this week after the team's latest early playoff exit. In nine seasons, McDermott's Bills went 98-50 in the regular season and 8-8 in the playoffs, but never got past the AFC Championship game.

On Wednesday, Bills owner Terry Pegula told reporters that he felt the team had "hit the proverbial playoff wall."

“Certainly, I'd lie to you if I said down the road, that wasn't something that would be a career goal," Anarumo answered in November regarding his name being mentioned as a head-coaching candidate, while then deflecting attention to that week's opponent.

The Colts' defense in 2025 was a polarizing group to fans, but an improvement from previous coordinator Gus Bradley, nonetheless. The Colts finished 23rd in yards (349.8 YPG) and tied-20th in scoring (24.2 PPG).

Colts decision-makers believe in the direction in which the defense (and the team) is moving after dealing with injuries throughout the year to key players such as defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (missed seven games), cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. (missed 10 games), cornerbacl Sauce Gardner (missed most of five games), slot defender Kenny Moore II (missed three games), cornerback Justin Walley (missed whole season), and safety/linebacker Hunter Wohler (missed whole season).

If Anarumo were to be hired elsewhere this offseason, the Colts would likely cast a wide net, but they do have some in-house options, such as defensive backs coaches Jerome Henderson and Chris Hewitt. Linebackers coach James Bettcher would be an option as well, but he's spent the last four years working for Anarumo, so he may follow him again if Anarumo leaves. Former defensive line coach Charlie Partridge left this offseason to fill the same position at Notre Dame.
