The Indianapolis Colts are entering the stretch of the season where they are managing persistent injuries and trying to keep players as fresh as possible. They also face the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, coming off a bye week.
As a result, the Colts conducted a walk-through on Wednesday. Therefore, the injury report is only an estimate of a player's participation if there was a practice.
“I want to make sure these guys are fresh," head coach Shane Steichen said on Wednesday. "We've been going for seven weeks. Jacksonville is coming off another bye. They're going to be fresh. I want to make sure we're in tip-top shape coming in Sunday.”
Here is how both teams' health is shaping up ahead of Sunday's matchup.
COLTS
WEDNESDAY
*Walk-through
- Did Not Participate — LB Bryce Boettcher (groin), CB Justin Walley (knee)
- Limited Participant — CB Sauce Gardner (calf), RG Matt Goncalves (ankle), WR Anthony Gould (concussion), TE Drew Ogletree (knee), DT Tim Smith (ankle), TE Tyler Warren (groin)
- Full Participant — LB CJ Allen (ankle), LB Akeem Davis-Gaither (hand), P Rigoberto Sanchez (right foot)
The good news is that the Colts got Gardner, Gould, Warren, and Allen back on the hypothetical practice field Wednesday after they all missed last week's game. Warren has actually missed the last two games.
On Tuesday, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said that Allen was in line to make his first career start last Sunday before suffering an ankle injury on Thursday that ultimately kept him out of the game. If he's able to play this Sunday, perhaps he does get the starting nod.
Boettcher missed last week's game with his injury, but Walley aggravated a knee injury in-game that affected his practice time last week. He was replaced in the lineup by undrafted rookie Kenneth Harris, whom the Colts signed to the active roster from the practice squad this week.
Ogletree, Smith, and Davis-Gaither all have new injury designations this week.
JAGUARS
WEDNESDAY
- Did Not Participate — S Antonio Johnson (ankle)
- Limited Participant — LS Ross Matiscik (shoulder), WR Jakobi Meyers (hamstring), DT Ruke Orhorhoro (ankle), LB Jahlani Tavai (hamstring)
- Full Participant — CB Montaric Brown (hamstring), TE Brenton Strange (eye)
With the Jaguars coming off a rest week, their injury report is bound to clear up as the week progresses.
Still, Brown and Matiscik did miss Jacksonville's last game in Week 6 due to their injuries. Brown also missed Week 4.
The Colts and Jaguars face off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS in Jacksonville at EverBank Stadium.
