The Indianapolis Colts are trying to peel themselves off the mat and get back into fighting shape after consecutive losses over the last two weeks. This week, they hit the road to take on the Minnesota Vikings.
The seriousness of their situation is exemplified by the firing of general manager Chris Ballard on Monday. However, the Colts must first overcome a litany of injuries.
In total, eight players missed Wednesday's practice due to injury, and another four were limited.
The Vikings, meanwhile, are in much better shape as they return from their bye week.
Here is how both teams' health is shaping up ahead of Sunday's matchup.
COLTS
WEDNESDAY
- Did Not Participate — WR Keenan Allen (rest), LB Bryce Boettcher (groin), CB Sauce Gardner (calf), G Matt Goncalves (ankle), WR Anthony Gould (concussion), TE Drew Ogletree (ankle), P Rigoberto Sanchez (right foot), DT Jerry Tillery (personal), CB Justin Walley (knee), CB Charvarius Ward Sr. (rest), TE Tyler Warren (groin)
- Limited Participant — LB Austin Ajiake (concussion evaluation), LB Jaylon Carlies (ribs), WR Ashton Dulin (hamstring), RB Jonathan Taylor (rest), OT Jalen Travis (foot)
Both Carlies and Dulin practiced for the first time since Week 4 after missing the last two games. Carlies has been the Colts' starting WILL linebacker and was replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Bryce Boettcher. Dulin was mostly replaced at receiver by Laquon Treadwell and Anthony Gould in the return game.
Gardner, Gould, Sanchez, and Warren were already known injuries that occurred either during or before last Sunday's loss to the Tennessee Titans. Warren missed his first game of the year with his injury, while the others left the game. Sanchez was able to return to the game.
Boettcher, Goncalves, Ogletree, and Walley are new additions to the injury report that may have resulted from the game, but were not issues during it.
If both Boettcher and Carlies cannot ultimately play against the Vikings, expect to see a much heavier dose of Ajiake and CJ Allen. Rookie Jalen Farmer would replace Goncalves. Ogletree would likely be replaced by Pharaoh Brown as a blocker. Walley would be a sizable loss as the team's slot corner. He'd likely be replaced by Kapena Gushiken since Cam Taylor-Britt would need to fill in for Gardner.
VIKINGS
WEDNESDAY
- Limited Participant — WR Justin Jefferson (ankle), OT Brian O'Neill (knee), CB James Pierre (foot)
- Full Participant — WR Jordan Addison (hamstring), OT Christian Darrisaw (concussion), CB Charles Demmings (hamstring), TE T.J. Hockenson (concussion), RB Jordan Mason (IR-thumb)
Coming off their bye week, no Vikings missed practice, though a few players participated in a limited capacity.
The biggest name is Jefferson, who likely isn't in danger of missing the game, as he played through his injury in Week 5.
O'Neill is Minnesota's right tackle, and Mason is attempting to make his return from Injured Reserve with his thumb injury.
The Colts and Vikings face off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS in Minneapolis at US Bank Stadium.
