INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts started their on-field portion of preparation for the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday, missing some key names, as receivers Josh Downs (concussion) and Ashton Dulin (chest) were additions to the injury report as non-participants.
In some positive news, the Colts did get slot corner Kenny Moore II back on the field for practice for the first time since exiting Week 3 early with an Achilles injury. Top cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. remains out with a concussion.
Here's how each team's health is shaping up ahead of Sunday afternoon's battle:
WEDNESDAY
The Colts don't often have players come back the same week they go into the concussion protocol, so we'll need to keep an eye on both Downs and Ward. We know Ward suffered his before the game last Sunday, and Downs likely reported symptoms to the team afterward or early in the week, as he played throughout the team's win over the Arizona Cardinals. He took a huge hit in the back of the end zone during a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter and was sandwiched again late in the game, either of which may have caused the ailment.
WEDNESDAY
The statuses of Alt, Dye, Henley, James, Johnston, Mack, Molden, and Pipkins all bear monitoring, as they are starters or significant contributors. The Chargers' injury issues cannot be understated.
The Colts and Chargers play this Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Cal. at 4:05 p.m. E.T. on FOX.
