The Indianapolis Colts have elevated cornerback Johnathan Edwards and edge defender Carl Lawson to the active roster from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will revert to the practice squad afterward.

The Colts signed Lawson (6'2", 260, 31 years old) on Wed., Oct. 7, and he is now set to make his team debut.

Lawson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Auburn by the Cincinnati Bengals. He spent his final two years there with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, who now holds the same title in Indianapolis.

Lawson has also spent time with the New York Jets (2021-23), Dallas Cowboys (2024), and Baltimore Ravens (2025). In 90 career games (34 starts), Lawson has 135 tackles (32 for loss), 32.0 sacks, 122 QB hits, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovered.

He has not played a full season since 2022, appearing in just 22 games over the past three years.

Along with Lawson, the Colts also have edge defenders Laiatu Latu, Jaylahn Tuimoloau, George Gumbs Jr., and Caden Curry available in Jacksonville. Arden Key (hamstring) and Micheal Clemons (toe) are on Injured Reserve.

Edwards (6'1", 201, 24 years old) was on the Colts' roster for Week 1 but was inactive for the game. He was waived afterward and subsequently signed to the practice squad.

The Colts signed Edwards last offseason as an undrafted rookie after a collegiate career at Indiana State (2021-23) and Tulane (2024). He appeared in 10 games for Indianapolis, making five starts, and played 313 snaps on defense and 69 on special teams. He totaled 26 tackles and three pass breakups.

Edwards had a rocky second preseason this summer. He played 78 snaps in the first two preseason games against the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, totaling six tackles and a pass breakup, and allowing catches on six of 10 targets for 116 yards (19.3 avg.) and a touchdown, according to Pro Football Focus.

Edwards joins Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward Sr., Kenneth Harris, and Kapena Gushiken as cornerbacks available on Sunday. Starting slot defender Justin Walley is out with a knee injury, and Cam Taylor-Britt (groin) and Cameron Mitchell (upper-body) are on IR.

Along with Walley being out, wide receiver/return specialist Anthony Gould (concussion) is as well. Linebacker Bryce Boettcher (groin) and tight end Drew Ogletree (knee) are questionable.
