The Washington Commanders will have a vacancy to fill on the practice squad after Robert Henry Jr. signed elsewhere on Monday

The Washington Commanders now have a vacancy to fill on its practice squad after another NFL team signed one rookie away.

The Seattle Seahawks announced that they signed running back Robert Henry Jr. off the Commanders' practice squad, a move announced coming out of week five as Seattle battles multiple injuries at the position.

The addition was made after the Seahawks saw their own running back room take a hit with former first round pick Jadarian Price expected to be placed on injured reserve, while Zach Charbonnet is expected to remain sidelined for the upcoming matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in week five.

Henry's arrival in Seattle also marked one of two additions after the team also announced the signing of veteran running back Joe Mixon, giving Maryland native and Seattle offensive coordinator Brian Fleury other options to turn to.

Yet Henry's departure from the Commanders officially ends his first stint that featured optimism and highlights out of the former UTSA star.

That includes the first preseason game after Henry finished second on the team with 75 rushing yards and one touchdown on 12 carries in the preseason opening win over the Miami Dolphins. Yet Henry struggled the rest of the preseason, both with his efficiency on the ground and in pass protection, while he also notched another fumble on special teams. Though Henry materialized into a potential roster addition following his breakout performance in the first preseason game, Henry was among the players tabbed to the practice squad ahead of the regular season opener after struggling to build on his production.

A former undrafted rookie free agent out of the 2026 NFL Draft, Henry began his NFL journey with the Commanders, though his arrival in Seattle now paves the way for the rookie to make his NFL debut.

The news also comes as the Commanders are roughly one week removed from handing the Seahawks their first regular season loss since midway through the 2025 season, while handing head coach Dan Quinn his first win in the season during the 2026 home opener.

Meanwhile, injuries and penalties proved to be the theme of the week four loss against the Indianapolis Colts in London. Washington will look to avoid already its second two game losing streak of the season when they host the NFC East-leading New York Giants this upcoming Sunday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is set for 1 PM ET.
