The Washington Commanders will officially have a presence in the 2026 Pro Bowl game, while additional injuries led to a pair of roster additions on Monday evening.
Punter Tress Way has been named to the NFC’s Pro Bowl team. This marks Way’s third appearance after being named a Pro Bowl selection both in 2019 and 2022. His selection in 2019 made him the first Washington punter to earn the honor since Matt Turk did so in 1998, also now becoming the only two punters in franchise history to be selected to three or more Pro Bowls.
Through Week 16, Way has punted 50 times for 2,362 yards, including 25 punts pinned inside the 20-yard line. Way has a net average of 43.8 yards. Way ranks fourth in the NFL and second in the NFC in net punt yards (43.8), averaging over 47 yards per punt with four touchbacks. His 25 punts pinned inside the opponents' 20 yard line also ranks second-most in the NFC this season. Way has recorded at least three punts in eight of the last nine games for the Commanders.
Way enters the final two weeks as the franchise leader in career punt yards (38,742), punts pinned inside the opponents’ 20 yard line (321) and net punting average (41.6) while ranked second in total punts, trailing only Mike Bragg. Way also still holds the record for the second-longest punt in franchise history with a 79 yard punt in the 29-21 win against the Carolina Panthers back in 2019. Way also can move to fifth all-time in games played for the franchise on Thursday as he enters week 17 with 194 career games played, a chance to pass Len Hauss over the next two games.
Washington nearly had two more selections with rookie wide receiver Jaylin Lane and linebacker Nick Bellore both selected as alternates. Lane was named second alternate as a return specialist while Bellore was named third alternate as a special teamer. Lane, meanwhile, may be unlikely to make an appearance should an alternate be needed for the Pro Bowl with his status already cemented for Christmas Day against Dallas.
Lane is one of several players battling injuries coming out of Saturday’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, leading Washington to place the Virginia Tech product on the injured/reserve list on Monday evening alongside defensive tackle Eddie Goldman. With Lane sidelined, Washington signed wide receiver Jamal Agnew off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons where he can step into the vacant returner role the final two games.
Washington also claimed defensive tackle Shy Tuttle off waivers from the Tennessee Titans with Goldman sidelined for the final two games of the 2025 season.
