A resolution from the brawl in the week 16 matchup between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles was announced over the weekend, while Thursday's loss cemented a winless record in front of a national audience in 2025.
Punishments issued from Eagles-Commanders brawl
While news quickly surfaced that no suspensions were expected to be handed down in the fallout of the week 16 brawl against the Philadelphia Eagles, the two teams gained clarity on the punishments over the weekend.
Commanders defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw earned the biggest fine of any player after the NFL imposed a $20,288 punishment because he “swung.” A trio of Commanders defensive backs were also fined with Will Harris drawing a $11,593 fine for grabbing a facemask, Quan Martin fined $11,572 for striking, kicking, tripping and kneeing, while Mike Sainristil was fined $9,725 for also striking, kicking, tripping and kneeing.
Eagles offensive lineman Tyler Steen was fined $8,436 for striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing and $8,435 because he “swung” for a total fine of $16,870 total.
The brawl occurred with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter after the Eagles attempted a two-point conversion to push the Commanders' deficit to 29-10, sparking the exchange after the play.
“I don't want those punches thrown,” head coach Dan Quinn said the day after the loss. “Both teams want to play tough, want to have good battles. And I loved so much of the first half of the game of a physical game, but never where we're crossing the line on either team. So, we want it tough, we want it physical, but never to where somebody's getting jammed up on punches thrown, penalties, all of that. We can play tough, we can play physical and we can do it without punching. Both teams know that and that'll certainly be brought across to our team. I'll let Nick handle his team. But yeah, definitely not what we want. And both sides, that'll be a big emphasis for us, for sure.”
The two teams will now meet for the regular season finale next week, which will kick off during the afternoon slot next week.
Commanders close 2025 season winless in standalone games
Coming off an NFC Championship game appearance, the Washington Commanders had a chance to shine on the national stage in year two under head coach Dan Quinn.
They did anything but that.
Following the Christmas Day loss vs. Dallas, Washington now ends the 2025 season winless in standalone games and finished 0-8.
- Thursday Night Football, week two at Green Bay: 27-18 loss
- Monday Night Football, week six vs. Bears: 25-24 loss
- Monday Night Football, week eight at Chiefs: 28-7 loss
- Sunday Night Football, week nine vs. Seahawks, 38-14 loss
- International Series, week 11 vs. Dolphins, 16-13 OT loss
- Sunday Night Football, week 13 vs. Broncos: 27-26 OT loss
- Saturday Football, week 16 vs. Eagles: 29-18 loss
- Christmas Day, week 17 vs. Cowboys: 30-23 loss
While injuries played a big part in Washington's failures in 2025, it's a sense of back to reality for fans who watched the team struggle in primetime during the Dan Snyder era. With one week until the end of the 2025 regular season, general manager Adam Peters will join Dan Quinn as pieces who will have other answer for the letdown season once the time to review what went wrong in year two arrives next month.
