The Washington Commanders saw a handful of draft targets make their way to Ashburn for local Pro Day on Wednesday

Jalen Huskey, University of Maryland Pro Day

While the 2026 NFL Draft inches closer, the Washington Commanders hosted their local Pro Day on Wednesday afternoon with nearly 40 prospects with ties to the area headed to the team's facility in Ashburn, Virginia.

Among them are a pair of familiar names, including former Maryland safety Jalen Huskey, who has been mocked to the Commanders recently by a pair of outlets. Head coach Mike Locksley pointed to Huskey's versatility as a safety or nickel corner while being capable playing boundary corner in a pinch. Huskey arrived at Maryland as an All-MAC selection as a cornerback at Bowling Green yet settled in at safety during his senior year in College Park, amassing while interceptions including three in as many games while reinforcing his profile as a plus-defender in run support. Huskey also emerged as a team leader for Maryland despite the program posting consecutive four-win seasons during his two seasons. Drawing buzz as a potential round six or seven prospect, Huskey would also become the second former Maryland safety to join the Commanders this offseason after signing Nick Cross during free agency.

USC safety Bishop Fitzgerald is another notable name after news broke earlier this week of his upcoming workout with the Commanders. After beginning his college career in the junior college ranks, Fitzgerald nearly moved on to Maryland after emerging as an early top target before ultimately signing with NC State, where he emerged as a playmaker along the backline during his two seasons with the Wolfpack. Fitzgerald then made the move to USC in 2025 where he finished with 34 total tackles, five interceptions and eight pass deflections in 2025 en route to being named a First Team All-American by both Walter Camp and the AP.
