The Washington Commanders have re-signed a second player this offseason with veteran offensive lineman Andrew Wylie returning on a two-year deal.

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

Weeks after re-signing punter Tress Way to a new one year deal less than two weeks ago, the Washington Commanders have inked another to avoid free agency.

Per multiple reports, the Washington Commanders have reached an agreement with offensive lineman Andrew Wylie on a two year, $7.5 million deal to become the second player on an expired contract to return to the team.

Wylie started four games at right guard, from week three through six in addition to the season finale win vs. Philadelphia, while playing in 16 total in 2025.

The veteran offensive lineman has played at least 11 games in all eight seasons, though 2025 marked one of two seasons that he started in fewer than half the games. Specifically, his five starts marked a career-low.

Wylie started 29 games during his first two seasons with Washington after inking a three year, $24 million contract ahead of the 2023 season.

He began his career with the Kansas City Chiefs where Wylie appeared in 71 games and 59 starts over five seasons to give the Commanders much needed experience in the trenches.

But it also adds insurance for an offensive line that returns a lot of production from 2025. Rookie right tackle Josh Conerly proved to be one of the team's success stories after a stark uptick in his play through the second half of the season compared to the first eight weeks, while Tyler Biadasz returns after starting all 17 games in 2025. Of course, all eyes remain on veteran left tackle Laremy Tunsil with the star heading into the final year of his contract, though all signs have pointed toward an extension expected to come to fruition this offseason. Whether Chris Paul, who became a mainstay as the starting right guard beginning in week three, returns with his rookie deal officially expired remains to be seen.

Whether the re-signing of Wylie is a replacement for Paul with aspirations for him to flip from right to left guard remains to be seen with the lone question mark on the offensive side of the trenches still left to answer, but the move adds versatility in the trenches with Wylie capable of stepping in as a swing tackle.

Wylie played 350 snaps at right guard in 2025 after playing 875 at right tackle in 2024.

Washington also enters the offseason with over 30 free agents including backup linemen Trent Scott, George Fant and Lucas Niang in addition to Paul.

With his status officially resolved, he will now return to Washington where he works with new offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton promoted from an assistant offensive line coach role, while Shane Toub steps in to fill Stapleton's previous title.
