The Washington Commanders have bolstered the cornerback depth and special teams contributor after re-signing a veteran who shined late in the 2025 season.
The Washington Commanders have added more depth at a position of need.
The team announced on Monday morning that veteran cornerback Antonio Hamilton Sr. is set to re-sign with the Commanders for a second season. Hamilton returns after serving as an underrated piece on the 2025 roster with a chance to elevate the depth under position coach William Gay ahead of 2026.
Hamilton appeared in all but two games during the 2025 season after he recorded 18 total tackles and a pair of pass deflections. Yet he also served as an integral part of the special teams unit alongside safety Jeremy Reaves where the veteran is able to step back into his role under special teams assistant John Glenn.
Hamilton arrived after a one year stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 after suiting up for the Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants while beginning his career in Oakland with the Raiders. He first arrived in DC after signing to the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster ahead of the home game against the Las Vegas Raiders back on Sept. 21, 2025.
He also stepped into the starting rotation late in the season in what proved to be a hectic weekend. After attending his wife's commencement ceremony at South Carolina State, Hamilton drew the start in the road game against the New York Giants, coming up with a pair of impact plays in the second half to help the Commanders pick up the road win. It marked his biggest workload of the season after drawing 56 snaps in the win, compared to just 31 snaps through the first 14 weeks of the season.
How much the veteran factors into the 2026 cornerback rotation is a question after the Commanders made a handful of moves this offseason with Amik Robertson serving as the first free agent signing followed by Akhello Witherspoon, who became the final free agent signing ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Washington still returns both Trey Amos and Mike Sainristil in 2026 with the cornerback depth and rotation a question mark all offseason.
Hamilton also becomes the latest to re-sign with Washington this offseason, joining punter Tress Way, wide receiver Treylon Burks, defensive end Drake Jackson and offensive lineman Chris Paul among several others. Whether he proves to be the final signing in the room this offseason will be a question mark with ample cap space available to still make moves.
