The Washington Commanders released updated renderings of the new stadium expected to be unveiled in 2030
The Washington Commanders have closed the book on the 2025 season, but Thursday marked a chance for a glimpse into the future after the team released its first conceptual renderings of the team's new stadium expected to be unveiled in 2030.
This marks the second rendering released after the team previously released its first after announcing a new stadium deal has been reached.
The new stadium is estimated to cost $3.65 billion with "mixed use development" with the public and is designed by HKS, recognized as the lead architect of the stadium after being announced in November.
Washington's management team also made trips to several other stadiums in hopes of evaluating other potential changes to the team's future stadium, while HKS' portfolio includes other impressive stadiums around the league including Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The additions are expected to enhance to existing public park space in hopes of linking the stadium with the Anacostia River's waterfront, providing a potential scenic new home for the organization.
The roof of the new stadium will be "anticlastic" featuring a cable net system creating "the most transparent roof that will enclose a large stadium anywhere on the planet," according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. The enclosed stadium paves an avenue for the Commanders to host roughly 200 additional events a year, including potential Super Bowls. The roof satisfies the NFL's requirement for Super Bowl host eligibility, paving a new way for the organization under new owner Josh Harris.
Construction of the new stadium is expected to begin in spring 2027 with its location on the former RFK Stadium site and aligned with the L'Enfant Plan.

The team is reportedly providing $2.5 billion of the total project cost, which was officially approved by DC City Council last September after length discussion.
“We’re designing a stadium that amplifies the energy of football, supports year-round events and becomes a place the community can be proud of," team president Mark Clouse said in a statement.
