With the Jeremiyah Love dream all but dead, the Washington Commanders have shown consistent interest in former Clemson running back, wide receiver Adam Randall
With nearly 24 hours until the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Jeremiyah Love dream appears to be all but dead with all signs pointing to the former Notre Dame star becoming a top five selection, taking away the chance for general manager Adam Peters to even have a decision to make. While it may be more likely that the Washington Commanders turn to the wide receiver room with its first pick, adding to the running back room appears to still very much be on the table.
Ryan Fowler reported on Tuesday morning that the Commanders are showing continued interest in former Clemson athlete Adam Randall, who was one of three running backs highlighted as possible day three fits for Washington.
The 6-foot-2, 230 pound athlete began his career as a wide receiver where he totaled 533 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 48 catches through his first three seasons, but he then made the transition to running back where he became an impact piece for the Tigers in 2025. In his fourth and final season, Randall ran for ten touchdowns and 814 yards while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. The position switch also helped him set career highs with 36 catches for 254 receiving yards and three touchdowns, proving to be one of the most explosive athletes in the ACC while being named a permanent captain by his teammates.
Randall was also named an honorable mention All ACC selection as both a running back and all purpose selection in 2025, while he enters Thursday's draft as the seventh-best running back prospect in ESPN's rankings. Randall was also projected to land with the Kansas City Chiefs with the 176th overall pick in the fifth round in ESPN's latest seven round mock draft.
The Clemson weapon would reinforce a weakness for the unit during the 2025 season with his ability to become a threat in the passing game while capable of splitting out wide to add a new dimension to new offensive coordinator David Blough's offense. Washington entered the offseason with a major question around the running back room with just one player under contract, yet those depth concerns were mitigated after re-signing Jeremy McNichols and adding Rachaad White and Jerome Ford through free agency.
The room is also set up for a feature back to step in with complimentary pieces around him, fueling the Jeremiyah Love talk around Washington earlier in 2026, yet the four day three picks gives the front office a chance to find its late round gem.
