The Washington Commanders have released one offensive tackle and signed another offensive tackle following a workout on Tuesday

With all the attention focused on the starting offensive line, the Washington Commanders are reshuffling its depth at offensive tackle after a pair of roster moves materialized on Tuesday afternoon.

The Commanders are expected to sign veteran offensive tackle DJ Humphries to a one year deal, per multiple reports, after working out for the team on Tuesday.

Humphries, 32, joins the Commanders with starting experience at left tackle to upgrade the depth behind expected starter Brandon Coleman, who will make the switch back to left tackle this upcoming season with Laremy Tunsil expected to miss a significant portion of the upcoming 2026 regular season.

A former first round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Humphries spent the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals where he started in all 98 games. He arrived as a right tackle as a rookie before flipping sides of the ball through the rest of his tenure with the organization. After battling injuries in the final years with the Cardinals, Humphries spent a portion of the 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs where he started during the end of the regular season and played special teams during the postseason run. Humphries then spent time with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2025 season after a reported deal with the 49ers fell through, though he appeared in eight games and started in one during his lone season with the organization.

The arrival of Humphries also came as the Commanders cut an existing tackle loose after the team announced that veteran Foster Sarell was released.

After bouncing around on the practice squad between the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants after becoming an undrafted rookie, Sarell spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers where he started in four games and appeared in 41 over his four year career. That included 2025 after Sarell signed a one year deal with the Commanders last March, but was released as part of roster cuts as the Chargers inked him to the practice squad. Sarell signed with Washington again in March of this year where he had a chance to solidify the depth, but the Commanders will now turn elsewhere with Humphries and Coleman cementing the top of the left tackle room while Josh Conerly prepares for year two as the starting right tackle.

The Commanders are set for a joint practice against the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday ahead of Friday's preseason finale.
