The Washington Commanders have added a former college teammate of Jayden Daniels at a position of need

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

The Washington Commanders have added another piece on offense, this time addressing a hole on the offensive side of the ball.

Running back Rachaad White is expected to sign with the Commanders, officially becoming the second running back under contract.

Washington entered the offseason with Jacoby Croskey-Merritt as the only player still under contract with Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. watching their contracts expire ahead of free agency, while the front office opted not to tender Rodriguez. Shortly after that news surfaced, news then broke that the Jacksonville Jaguars would end up signing him to become the first Commander to sign elsewhere this offseason.

As for White, he arrives with a chance to step into a better role. And he also arrives after being transparent about his interest in heading to Washington this offseason.

White now reunites with his former college quarterback, Jayden Daniels, after playing two seasons together at Arizona State. White also changed his profile picture on X to one of both he and Daniels during their days together with the Sun Devils, becoming the latest one of Daniels’ former teammates who expressed an interest in a reunion.

White became a third round selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 91st overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, eventually scoring his first career touchdown in his NFL debut. It marked the lone rushing touchdown of his rookie season after adding another 290 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 50 catches, one of three seasons he notched 50 or more catches in a season.

Now in Washington, White could be stepping into a more attractive role with a chance at more carries after watching rookie Bucky Irving become the lead back for the Buccaneers over the last two seasons, making the Commanders a better fit for the 27 year old.

He finished his time in Tampa Bay with 48 starts and 67 appearances and rushing for over 2,600 yards while adding 25 total touchdowns, including nine scores in both 2023 and 2024.

White also finished ten yards shy of a 1,000 yard rushing season in 2022, while he has been available for all but one game during his four year NFL career.

While at Arizona State with Daniels, White exploded as a weapon within the Sun Devils’ offense after rushing for over 1,000 yards in 2021 while adding 43 catches for 456 receiving yards and another touchdown.
