On the latest episode of the DC Roundtable Podcast, we dive into what to know and our questions ahead of the matchup with the Washington Commanders officially set to kick off the 2026 regular season this weekend
On the next episode of the DC Roundtable Podcast hosted by Tyler Lochte and Ahmed Ghafir diving into the Washington Commanders, it's officially game week. And with the preseason slate officially over, the real game action officially kicks off this upcoming weekend.
The Commanders are officially set to travel north to kick off the 2026 regular season this weekend when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in the first of two divisional matchups to open the slate. Washington will look to secure its first season opening win since 2023 when they took down the Arizona Cardinals, 20-16, and first on the road since 2018, which also came against the Cardinals following a 24-6 finish. Yet fast forward to 2026, this Sunday marks a thrilling opener for head coach Dan Quinn with a chance to set the tone for the rest of the fall. With Washington set to officially introduce a pair of new coordinators, along with the Eagles looking to redefine themselves on offense following the offseason trade that sent AJ Brown to the New England Patriots, where is the biggest concern in the matchup between the two NFC East teams?
Washington's offensive line that has been under the microscope nearly all offseason will be tasked with protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels against an imposing Philadelphia defensive line. On the other side of the ball, the Commanders' retooled defensive line is tasked with stopping running back Saquon Barkley to avoid the big plays. Which side inspires more concern heading into week one? Odafe Oweh was among the players who returned to practice on Monday, though head coach Dan Quinn shied away from identifying which players may be available this upcoming weekend. Do the Commanders have the pieces? We give an overview of the first road matchup.
Plus, the Commanders also reportedly pulled the trigger on a shakeup to the practice squad after re-signing veteran wide receiver Van Jefferson and releasing tight end Joshua Simon to add more depth to a now, arguably deep wide receiver room. Why is Jefferson's return to the organization notable? Can he provide quality depth if needed?
