The first of two joint practices is in the books for the Washington Commanders as the Miami Dolphins made the trip to Ashburn on Wednesday

The first of two joint practices are in the books for the Washington Commanders after hosting the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, giving head coach Dan Quinn a measuring stick to gauge the rest of his team ahead of the first preseason game. Notes on key takeaways:

Jayden Daniels Dazzles

After flashing his zip and accuracy to begin training camp, quarterback Jayden Daniels picked up where he left off on Wednesday after connecting with his pass catchers throughout the day. The third year quarterback connected downfield with Terry McLaurin, Treylon Burks, Chig Okonkwo and Van Jefferson in 7-on-7 along with a top-tapping touchdown by Stefon Diggs in redzone drills.

The accuracy has been constant, which is what many have come to expect from him when he's healthy. Though the Dolphins may have their own questions to answer on both sides of the ball this season, the Commanders capitalized on the task at hand. Whether Daniels and many other starters ultimately play again on Friday is another question, but the joint practice marked a continuation of what we've seen through the offseason.

Mixed Reviews in the Trenches

The good news was Washington's defensive line was able to control the day with Javon Kinlaw, Daron Payne and Javontae Jean-Baptiste all flashing. Yet the good feedback could also extend to the outside linebackers after Odafe Oweh and K'Lavon Chaisson teamed up for four consecutive sacks in redzone drills, adding optimism that the improved pass rush will come to fruition. Chaisson briefly left the field during team drills, but came right back onto the field a few plays later to ease any possible injury concerns. Charles Omenihu, Joshua Joseph and newly signed Byron Cowart also flashed in one-on-ones.

The bad news was Washington's offensive line, which entered the day under the microscope. DMV native Chop Robinson was able to generate pressure at points with the offensive line showing there's a long ways to go with the lack of much success on the ground also attributed to that. With a lot of new pieces that may not have been expected even just two weeks ago now leading the unit, Friday will be a chance to take a step forward to begin the preseasons.

Other notes

- Run defense flashed with Kain Medrano, Leo Chenal and Frankie Luvu among the players who made plays inside

- Kickers Drew Stevens and Jake Moody have been entrenched in one of the more interesting camp battles, but both delivered on Wednesday after each finishing 6-for-6 on the day, including a make from 60 yards.

- Rookie WR Antonio Williams also connected with QB Marcus Mariota for a 20 yard touchdown during the team period. Williams was also reportedly seen spotted lining up as a running back on one play next to quarterback Jayden Daniels

- RB Rachaad White had a ~40 yard touchdown

- Mike Sainristil had an up and down day, but it also featured a highlight after coming up with a pick six against Dolphins QB Malik Willis, while Amik Robertson generated an impressive pass breakup that led to some jawing on the sidelines.
