The Washington Commanders have made several moves through the first two weeks of free agency with a drastically improved outlook defensively, enough to draw favorable grades from a pair of outlets. But Washington still has needs to address and while the market has slowed down with the pool of available players thinned out, we take a look at three who can still address key positions ahead of the 2026 season.
Rasul Douglas, CB
After an active Free Agency period, cornerback remains the biggest need for the Commanders, and it looks likely they will grab a few guys in the draft. However, there are still veteran starters out there that could help with the development of said players. Douglas is one of those options, remaining unsigned after spending 2025 with the Miami Dolphins. He’s been on five teams in his nine-year career, starting at every place, and earned a Super Bowl ring with the 2017 Eagles.
While Douglas turns 31 before the start of the new year, he proved last that he’s not done just yet, allowing only a 72.6 passer rating when targeted, according to PFF. For any team looking for a solid veteran corner that might help with developing some young players, Douglas fits that profile to a tee.
Cornerback Tre’Davious White
A former first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills, White became a two-time Pro-Bowler and was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2019 with the team that drafted him. After that, injuries got to White, and it looked like his career was finished after time with the Rams and Ravens in 2024. However, he returned to Buffalo last year and showed he’s still got something left in the tank.
While he will never regain the All-Pro form he once had, White is still a starting-caliber corner that will help out a Commander that could potentially have some new NFL faces in it.
Center Lloyd Cushenberry
After corner, center might be the second biggest need left for Washington following the release of Tyler Biadasz. While the Commanders do have Nick Allegretti, the presumed starter for 2026 as things currently stand, they did make a run at Tyler Linderbaum before he signed with the Raiders. Allegretti is also the only center on the roster so bringing in someone else has a the position is a must. That brings us to Cushenberry, who was let go by the Titans after being their starter for the last two years. It probably wouldn’t take much to bring him in, and if he returns to his Denver form, that could be one of the best moves in 2026. At worst, Cushenberry is a depth piece at a position that needs it, with potential to be more than that.
