After one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, wide receiver Dyami Brown explains his decision to return to the Washington Commanders in 2026
After one season away from Washington, Dyami Brown is back with the Commander and ready to elevate the floor of the unit in 2026.
"I'm glad to be back somewhere that I wanted to be. I kind of missed it," Brown said of his return.
The former North Carolina speedster began his NFL career in Washington after blossoming into a third round pick during the 2021 NFL Draft, becoming a rotational piece the offense after posting 17 catches for 308 yards and two touchdowns through his first two seasons. Brown then became a staple in the rotation in year three, appearing in all 17 games before a career 2024 season where he posted 30 catches for 308 receiving yards.
2024 also marked his final year on his rookie contract with a chance to hit free agency and sign elsewhere, eventually doing so after inking a one year, $10 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But Brown would fall out of the rotation by the season where he did not record a stat in the Jaguars' playoff appearance after being held without a catch for the final eight games of the season.
"I kind of understand the game a little bit more than what I have in the past," Brown said of his stint with the Jaguars. "I took the steps to learn from other people like Jakobi Meyers, [Brian Thomas Jr.] out there."
But with a chance at a fresh start, returning to familiar territory was one he preferred.
"For me, I wanted to be back," Brown said. "I wanted to come back and it got done."
Brown added he reconnected with both quarterback Jayden Daniels and cornerback Mike Sainristil prior to making his return official. But there is one slight change from the last time here: David Blough has since replaced Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator, leading to an expected shift in scheme.
With Brown back where he wants to be, he's letting his role in the offense play out through the offseason as he looks to be part of a playoff team for the third consecutive season.
"I will get to that point when it comes, but I think at the end of the day, just me going out there and competing, finding a way to make the team better as well. Because at the end of the day, I need them just like how they need me."
