In an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, veteran Von Miller expressed openness that he could return to the Washington Commanders in 2026 while noting the Denver Broncos as a hopeful possibility

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

With free agency days away from unofficially beginning with the legal tampering window set to open on Monday, March 9, the Washington Commanders will have a chance to begin making moves, including addressing their long list of stay or go decisions. One of those decisions will be veteran edge rusher Von Miller with a question as to where he will play in 2026, but it's clear that two teams are on his radar.

Miller, admitting he signed with the Commanders over eventual Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks last offseason, remains open to returning to Washington for a second season with thoughts of returning to Denver in a final season with the Broncos.

“I’m a loyal guy,” Miller said on the Rich Eisen Show. “I would love to stay with the Washington Commanders. I fell in love with my teammates there. I love the way they run the organization. Adam Peters is great, coach [Dan] Quinn is great. I would love to be a Washington Commander. Now, if something were to happen and I’m not a Washington Commander, then I would love to go to the Denver Broncos."

It isn't the first time that Miller has expressed an interest in returning to the Commanders after reiterating his happiness with the organization on the Free Range Von Miller podcast to begin 2026.

Miller's lone season with Washington ended with the veteran becoming the team's sack leader after registering his ninth sack in the season finale win over the Philadelphia Eagles, while he played in every game for the first time since 2018. Miller added 26 total tackles in addition to his sack production, giving the Commanders a quiet yet productive presence on the edge after signing a one year deal last offseason worth $6.1 million with up to $10.5 million in incentives. He arrived having notched 14 sacks in three seasons with the Buffalo Bills after previously winning his second Super Bowl during his career as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

Washington remains expected to add at least another pass rusher to the rotation in 2026 under new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones, but general manager Adam Peters also noted a need to get younger on both sides of the ball. Whether adding a veteran like Miller is the right move remains the biggest question mark with the future Hall of Famer likely prioritizing his role in 2026 and there being questions whether his role would grow beyond what it was in 2025.

If Miller can't make a return to Washington a reality, it's clear why the idea of returning to the franchise where he played his first ten seasons in the NFL is appealing to the three-time All Pro selection.

"I didn’t get that chance to have closure. I didn’t get to walk into the stadium and go like, ‘Okay, this is my last game. I’m gonna do this with the fans on my last [game].’ I didn’t get that closure. So, I would love to have closure with the Denver Broncos,” Miller added.
