With the first week of free agency now complete, that means the 2026 NFL Draft is one week closer with the next phase of the offseason a chance for the Washington Commanders to add another playmaker to the roster, whether it be on offense or defense.
And days after the Washington Commanders set top-30 visits with the first two draft prospects, including one who has loosely drawn buzz as a fit with the seventh overall pick, a third known draft prospect has reportedly set plans to meet with the coaching staff, marking another potential homecoming.
Former LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane is expected to meet with the Commanders, fueling the flames that the former blue-chip defensive back could become a realistic pick for Washington.
And in a defense led by Daronte Jones, a Forestville, MD native who graduated from Bishop McNamara High School then Morgan State, the selection of Delane would mark a second homecoming for the Commanders on defense given the Silver Spring native played his high school ball at Archbishop Spalding High School before going to Virginia Tech then LSU, changing plans after nearing a commitment to the University of Maryland out of high school.
While Delane ascended into one of the ACC's best cornerbacks during his three seasons in Blacksburg, ending his tenure as a Third Team All-ACC selection, it was with the Tigers when he became one of the best cornerbacks in the country. And depending who you ask, the top draft prospect at his position.
Delane became one of four LSU defensive backs to become a unanimous All American selection, earning the title by five different outlets including the Associated Press and AFCA, while also becoming one of 13 players nationally to earn unanimous status.
Delane posted two interceptions, 11 passes broken up and 45 tackles in 11 games with the Tigers. He also allowed zero passing touchdowns and was targeted under 10% of the time in coverage with opponents completing just 37.1% of passes thrown his way. In 2025, Delane allowed just 13 catches for six first downs and 147 yards - on 358 snaps in pass coverage.
Washington has already signed one cornerback in free agency with former Raiders and Lions cornerback Amik Robertson capable of taking over the slot, but Delane fills a need as an impact boundary corner with an impressive resume.
Washington is one of two teams in the NFC East to set a visit with Delane after the Dallas Cowboys reportedly finalized plans to meet with the 6-foot cornerback prospect, who has challenged Jermod McCoy out of Tennessee as the top draft prospect at the position.
