Washington head coach Dan Quinn is staying patient on the status of Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, but wide receiver Noah Brown may give the wide receiver room another boost

Though the Washington Commanders have continued to leave the door open on a potential return in 2025, head coach Dan Quinn reiterated his patient approach through the week on quarterback Jayden Daniels despite not yet being cleared for contact.

“Optimistic he’s going to get a lot of reps for practice. I’m going to take it all the way through Friday,” Quinn said on Wednesday. “There’s still like functional evaluations to go through but gameplan and practicing and that part is good. You’ll see on the side, it’s a little more challenging to work at the quarterback when you’re not doing the same contact so we’ll have to simulate as much as we can. He’s off to a good start but he’s going to go all the way through Friday for sure but he'll get a lot of reps in practice.”

Washington is preparing to face Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy, who was cleared from concussion protocol and is now expected to return to the starting lineup on Sunday. But when Daniels does make a return remains a question mark with Marcus Mariota increasingly likely to make his fourth consecutive start as he looks for its first win as a starter in 2025.

Tight end Zach Ertz, outside linebacker Von Miller and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil were all designated as non-football injuries with Wednesday serving as a rest day for the veterans. Meanwhile, DE Drake Jackson (knee/groin), DT Javon Kinlaw (back) and linebacker Bobby Wagner (knee) were all unavailable during Wednesday’s practice with LB Frankie Luvu joining Daniels as a limited participant.

Long snapper Tyler Ott was also listed as a full participant, in addition to wide receiver Noah Brown, who head coach Dan Quinn expressed optimism about a possible imminent return.

“Very much in the green, high. So I [have] got good optimism and that’s all I’m going to say about that,” Quinn adding while jokingly knocking on the table.

Brown has yet to play since the week two loss at Green Bay after suffering a groin injury that has sidelined through the rest of the 2025 season with just three catches on seven targets.

One target who is healthy and looking to make an impact for the second straight week is wide receiver Treylon Burks, meanwhile, who will look to build on his highlight-worthy touchdown reception in the Monday night primetime over loss vs. Denver. Quinn emphasized the benefit of the “fresh eyes” the former first-round pick now enjoys in Washington.

“I think it’s the unseen work. Adam [Peters] and his group knew a lot more about him just going through the process from the draft to that. I just got a chance – fresh eyes, man. I try to do that with every player here. Sometimes when a person is on another team, well he didn’t do this or he did that – let’s just see what it looks like here. I think a player like Trey deserves that, to have fresh eyes here and I’ve told him that. Coming in man, like this is your space.”
