The Cowboys and George Pickens remain no closer to a long-term deal, which leads to all sorts of potential scenarios playing out.

The Dallas Cowboys are poised to have yet another contract of a star player dominate the offseason headlines when it doesn't need to.

George Pickens is set to be the most discussed player in football over the next couple of months as he awaits a new long-term deal.

The Cowboys have placed the franchise tag on George, and if the two sides can't agree to a new deal, Pickens either holds out and loses money or he signs the tag and earns roughly $27 million for the 2026 season.

But there might be another option.

We have seen rumors of a potential trade for Pickens dating back a couple of months, with some thinking that just a second-round pick would get the deal done. To me, it has to start at a first-rounder.

But now comes Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox with his hypothetical draft trade scenarios, and he has George being traded on draft night.

"According to ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys "have not had discussions" with Pickens about a long-term deal," Knox wrote. "If an extension doesn't seem either likely or sensible, trading Pickens and getting a receiver on a rookie contract could be an option.

"It might not be an option the Cowboys are likely to exercise. However, if a prospect like Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, Ohio State's Carnell Tate, or USC's Makai Lemon is sitting there when Dallas is on the clock, it's one that could become more appealing.

"And having Pickens land with another team while a top receiver comes off the board to Dallas would certainly send shockwaves through the NFL."

Pickens getting traded, at least for me, wouldn't make too much sense given how much it would cripple the Dallas offense.

Not to mention that it would signal to the locker room and the rest of the NFL world that the Cowboys aren't serious about using their weapons to win a Super Bowl.

Trading Pickens would send the exact message Jerry Jones doesn't want to send.

A draft night trade is an interesting thought, but I feel it is nothing more. We have seen it happen before with A.J Brown being traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the 2022 draft.

But the Cowboys know how valuable Pickens is to the offense, and I'd imagine the worst-case scenario is that George plays on the franchise tag.
