The Cowboys have been rumored to be interested in trading up to No. 6 to take a defensive star, but two analysts have poured cold water on that.
As the NFL Draft edges closer, rumors begin to heat up, and one that has gone supernova over the past week is the Dallas Cowboys trading up in the first-round.
Some had Dallas going as high as No. 3, but that has now been overtaken by the Cowboys trading with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the No. 6 overall pick.
That has been the hot rumor, with many thinking the Cowboys could take Caleb Downs or Sonny Styles if they executed that trade.
But it is worth noting that this is the silly season, and lots of rumors are flying around.
Yahoo Sports' Andrew Siciliano stated that he spoke to people in Dallas about the trade rumor, and his sense was that the team isn't too interested in moving up.
Then Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, who appeared on the same podcast as Siciliano, was asked if he was buying Dallas moving up so high in the draft.
"No, I'm not," Robinson said. "I talked to someone in Dallas, and I felt like those two first-round picks feel like they can get contributing players. They feel good about getting players who might not be instantaneous starters but can come in immediately and contribute to the 2026 team, and that's what they need.
"They need more players particularly defensively to continue to add to that depth chart. I think it's the sexy thing that everybody's talking about right now.”
It certainly makes headlines, which we know Jerry Jones loves, but it is all just a projection of what people think could happen. Not what will.
But just because many believe the Cowboys won't, doesn't mean that the franchise won't package both picks and move up.
But Robinson knows that at this time of the year, it can be hard to tell what is truth and what is fiction.
"It's lying season, I understand that you always have to take things with a grain of salt," Robinson added. "But I certainly did not get the sense that they're going to package their two first-round picks to move up in this particular draft.
"They feel pretty good about the depth lasting to that second first round pick to where they can actually get meaningful players.”
So both Siciliano and Robinson, after speaking with people inside The Star, aren't convinced the franchise will make the big blockbuster deal to move up.
And that's mainly because in doing so, the Cowboys would be getting one starter for Christian Parker's defense, when they need to get two in the first-round.
