The Dallas Cowboys' free agency plan, so far, has been to get new coordinator Christian Parker key quality defensive players at important positions.
Linebacker and pass rusher are two areas that need strengthening, and you could make the case for corner as well.
With Rashan Gary, PJ Locke, Jalen Thompson, and Cobie Durant being signed, you would think three are starters in 2026, with Locke seen as a rotational guy.
As the draft comes into view, some think corner is the most obvious need, even above linebacker.
Yes, the Cowboys can still be active in free agency before the draft, with Bobby Wagner, Jordyn Brooks, and Azeez Al-Shaair among the names of interest.
Still, corner appears to be where most want the Cowboys to go early in the draft.
Armed with two first-round picks, No. 12 and No. 20, we've seen one name mocked repeatedly to Dallas: LSU's Mansoor Delane.
And for the Athletic's Jon Machota, in the publication's mock draft, he has the Cowboys taking Delane at No. 12.
"In just about any other year, the Cowboys would not pass on (Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah) Love in this situation," Machota wrote. "But the Cowboys need defensive help even more this year, so it’s highly unlikely they’d go with Love here. Delane fits a major area of need, giving Dallas a Day 1 starting cornerback to pair with DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel and recently signed Cobie Durant.
"Had Delane been gone, this would’ve been an ideal trade-back situation."
Does this suggest Dallas might actually have a debate on its hands if Love and Delane are both available?
The Cowboys do need some depth at corner, given Bland's injury issues over the past couple of years, and we don't know what Revel Jr. will be like in Year 2, but the hope is that he will improve.
But getting another potential starter in Delane isn't a bad choice.
It is interesting that Machota stated that if Delane was gone, Dallas could trade back, and it isn't the first time we have heard that. So that is also a potential option.
In an ideal world, the Cowboys would have their pick of at least a handful of players at No. 12, and the trade back would happen at No. 20.
Love might become an offensive superstar ... but Dallas already has Javonte Williams.
Delane, meanwhile, presents the Cowboys with a genuine Day 1 starter at corner, and not only that, but he would put pressure on the entire room to take their game up a level.
