Facing a devastating defensive collapse against Tampa Bay, Dallas enters a critical mini-bye focused on internal accountability and urgent adjustments before a daunting trip to Lambeau.

The Dallas Cowboys have a mini-bye to figure out what went wrong after their 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at AT&T Stadium.

It was a game many thought Dallas should win, and it ended up being one that has been described as one of the worst losses in recent memory.

A rookie quarterback came into your building, and looked comfortable as he only had six incompletions, and led long touchdown drives with the help of 241 yards on the ground.

Just yuck all-around.

Now, Dallas has 10 days to fix this mess and look for ways to improve, because at 2-3, the season isn't dead and buried, though it feels that way.

Many think both Brian Schottenheimer and Christian Parker are over their heads, but they are the two who have to do the most soul-searching.

And in the aftermath of the loss, Schotty says that those inside the building are the solution.

“I think these couple days here are really important for us," Schottenheimer said. "You gotta remember that there have been situations that we’ve talked about that we have performed well in, situations in third downs in some games or red zone in some games. It’s just not been consistent enough. And we have to answer those questions of why. We are solution makers. We are not excuse makers.

"And that’s what we’re working on really, really hard right now. We’re having the hard conversations. We’re looking at the film. Those conversations are really important. And those things are being had in all three phases, not just on defense.

"But we feel like we’re identifying some adjustments or changes — that’s the word you guys use — that we think will help us perform better, which is the main objective.”

So, the Cowboys better emerge against the Green Bay Packers, a vastly different team, because you won't have many fans looking at that game at Lambeau Field and feeling any sort of confidence that Dallas can get a win.

Right now, the feeling around this team is about as low as it can be, and even after all of the offseason changes, Jerry Jones being a buyer in free agency, the new coaching additions, and Parker's hire, it all still looks the same as last year.

And that is nightmare fuel.

Hiring Parker was supposed to lead to an uptick in defense, and it still might, but right now this is as bad a defense as you can imagine, in every phase.

Will 10 days of self-scouting fix that? It better.
