Amid mounting pressure and early-season struggles, Dallas’s star quarterback doubles down on his unit's bold identity as the Cowboys’ high-powered offense chases historic efficiency and statistical dominance.

FRISCO - The aftermath of the Dallas Cowboys' Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Rio was intense, with the offense being accused of "playing it safe'' (or maybe even of "playing it stupid'') and taking a lot of heat for it.

Dak Prescott and his self-created "GOTI'' ("Greatest Offense There Is'') nickname? Many called for that moniker to be scrapped because the unit didn't score at the two-yard line in Rio.

Then the first half against the Houston Texans saw just six points put on the board, and suddenly, "GOTI'' seemed like a boorish boast as was nowhere to be seen ... until it was.

In the second half, Dallas scored touchdowns on four of its five possessions against Houston's defense (totaling 28 second-half points). And when the game was there to be won, unlike in Rio, the Cowboys went for the throat and scored a touchdown, not a field goal, to capture a clutch win to move to 2-2.

So, with so much self-imposed pressure on the Cowboys' offense to live up to that standard, does Dak regret the name?

"No, I got no regrets," Prescott said. "We're what? Four games in. I think we can get better. Am I complacent with what we've done? Absolutely not. Do I think what we've done, is it enough? Absolutely not. Do I still believe that's who we are and that's who we're going to be? Damn right."

Through four games, the Cowboys are averaging 30.5 points per game (second-best), but when we look at average points per drive, Dallas is at 3.39, which puts them at No. 5 on a list of the best offenses ever since 2000.

Oh, and the Cowboys have only punted seven times in four games, the fewest in football.

Now, that is a four-game sample size, and the other teams on that list did it for an entire season, but it does look very "GOTI''-ish, doesn't it?

"It's encouraging, I guess, because we're not even where we want to be, and we haven't put together all four quarters the way that we believe we can," Prescott added. "But like I said, I believe that's who we are."

And in the last half against Houston, that is the standard for this unit.

Now, will the Cowboys - 10-point favorites on Thursday against the visiting (and winless) Bucs - do that every week? Not likely, but when you put a name like that out there, it puts a target on your back.

In the end ...

Everyone was taking their shots after Rio and rightly so, but against Houston, we saw how devastating "GOTI'' can be when it gets rolling.

Cowboys critics might not be buying it. But Dak is selling it - hard.
