Camden Brown hauled in two touchdowns against the Seahawks, but he needs to continue to stack days according to his coach.
The Dallas Cowboys got their preseason off to a winning start, beating the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 at Lumen Field.
In a game where there were plenty of storylines to follow, the receiver position wasn't one at the top of the watch list, but it is now.
With CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, and KaVontae Turpin sitting out, it was a chance for those lower on the depth chart to make a name for themselves.
And someone did.
Undrafted free agent Camden Brown.
Having stacked good days of production in Oxnard, it was time to see if that could translate into a real game, as we have often seen players who stand out in practice disappear in games.
Well, for Brown, he was the star of the day, hauling in two touchdowns, one of which was a 39-yard reception from Sam Howell, and the other a one-handed snag from Joe Milton in the third quarter.
In total, three receptions for 62 yards and 2 TDs saw Brown have a superb day in Seattle to easily be a standout for the receiver room.
And post-game, head coach Brian Schottenheimer spoke about Brown and what he needs to do for the rest of the preseason.
“The game’s not too big for him," Schottenheimer said. "He does it every day in practice, we see it all the time… Really good day, but he’s got to keep stacking what he’s been doing.”
So, it is a great first step for Brown, but it can't be the only one.
With another joint practice against the New Orleans Saints on the schedule, along with two preseason games, there is ample opportunity for him to solidify his standing on the roster.
He could easily be seen as WR5 right now, with Lamb, Pickens, Flournoy, and Turpin ahead of him, and even WR4 if you want to count Turpin as a special teamer.
Brown has announced himself to Cowboys Nation. Having been a good weapon in practice, it has translated onto the field, which is exactly what the coaching staff would have wanted.
The trick now is to do it again, which, as we know, is the hardest thing for those fighting for a roster spot.
But Brown is off to a seriously good start.
