The Cowboys started fast against Washington but faded before picking up steam late. How can the unit get more consistent?
Entering the season, most of us knew the Dallas Cowboys' offense would be the straw that stirs this drink.
After a failure at the New York Giants in Week 1, the offense then put up 37 points against the Washington Commanders, doing its part.
But thanks in part to defensive concerns, the feeling is that the offensive group once again has to be perfect if Dallas is to win the game, and against Washington, it once again sputtered a little.
After scoring a touchdown, a field goal, and another touchdown in its first three possessions, the Dallas offense cooled and punted, then kicked a field goal as the Commanders got back in the game.
Only in the fourth quarter did the offense get rolling, scoring 10 points and going 93 yards in 14 plays, including Dak Prescott's record-breaking touchdown, to finally nail the coffin shut.
But what can the Cowboys' offense do to make sure they are consistent throughout the entire game? CeeDee Lamb knows.
"We got to find a way to have that energy and that stamina," Lamb said. "I feel like towards the middle of the second quarter, early third quarter, we kind of tapered off a little bit, and then we found our groove again. The best teams, they played throughout the whole game, and I feel like we got to do that if we consider ourselves the best."
The GOTI offense has shown itself in 2026, but only briefly.
To start the game against the Giants, Dallas had back-to-back punts before scoring on three of their last four possessions, and the time they didn't, Dak was intercepted.
So, looking back at that game and pairing it with what transpired early against Washington, the Cowboys, after Dak's interception (not counting the final 13 seconds of the first half in New York), had scored on five straight drives before the punt in the second quarter in Week 2.
That is the sort of play CeeDee is talking about.
And with the Baltimore Ravens up next, against this wobbly defense, the Cowboys are most likely going to have to be near-perfect in Brazil if they are to win this game.
