Cowboys 2025 Quarterback Review: Dak Prescott 'Good, Bad & Ugly' cover image

Dak Prescott had one of his best seasons as a Cowboy in 2025.

The 2025 NFL season will be looked back on as one of Dak Prescott's better years as a Dallas Cowboy.

Unfortunately, it won't be remembered for that alone.

Maybe more, it will be remembered for the horrific defense under the now-fired Matt Eberflus.

But back to Dak.

Year 10 proved to be one of Prescott's best.

Throwing 4,552 yards (third-best), 30 TDs (fourth-best in football), and 10 interceptions make for good reading, along with his 99.5 passer rating and 70.6 QBR. Per PFF, Dak also ranked second in big-time throws, making 31 throughout the season.

So, that is a snapshot of Dak in 2025.

How do we view his year overall?

Let's take a look.

The Good:

There were a handful of games where Prescott played like an MVP-caliber quarterback.

The second-half against the much-vaunted Philadelphia Eagles, the overtime tie with the Green Bay Packers, and the Thanksgiving Day win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Such was Prescott's form early in the season that he was in the MVP discussion, but as the losses piled up, some not on him, that faded rather quickly.

Still, a fourth Pro Bowl for his 2025 season is a good reward for a veteran quarterback who played perhaps the best he has pre-and post-snap in his career.

The Bad:

The poor losses to the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.

At the time, they were seen as two teams the Cowboys should have accounted for, and yes, you can make the case that the defense let Dak down, but in Carolina, Dallas had to settle for a field goal to tie it up at 27-27, instead of scoring a touchdown.

And the Cardinals, Dak and the offense had scored just 10 points until the fourth quarter.

Both games are now looked back on as two that sunk Dallas' season.

And unfortunately, Prescott played a role in both losses.

The Ugly:

Those second-half offensive fade outs.

With the Cowboys needing to win out to keep their playoff hopes alive in the final month, the offense started well in all of those games, scoring 68 first-half points.

But the second halves? Dak and Dallas scored just 22 points, with just one touchdown in the final month (Week 18 vs. the Giants).

The Cowboys would end the year going 1-3, with the offense in the second half struggling to get anything going.

Overall grade: B

It's hard not be impressed with what Dak did this season. Leading one of the NFL's best offenses and being an MVP candidate as well.

Another year of 30+ TDs and 4,000+ passing yards look good on the stat sheet, but the 7-9-1 record, coupled with those poor losses and second half fade outs, stop this from being an A season from No. 4.
